Woollahra House

A stately 1940s Arts and Crafts property purchased in a partially demolished state, this home required a complete overhaul across three levels — relieving tight room configurations, maximising spatial flow, ushering in natural light and capitalising on extensive garden views.

The scope encompassed a new stair hall, re-zoned layouts including a fluid family living area, an expanded kitchen with butler's pantry, and redesigned bathrooms and bedrooms throughout. Original cornices, skirting and decorative ceilings were retained and restored, augmenting the house's nostalgic character. Against this, marble, steel, terrazzo and brass introduce rich tonal depth and unifying surface patinas.

A formal black and white palette anchors the interiors, animated by injections of emerald green, textural velvet accents and considered pattern work — v-jointed wall panelling, herringbone tiling and viridescent floral wallpaper. Seamless joinery, revised lighting and a careful selection of contemporary furniture complete a home that is robust and considered, grounded yet quietly opulent.
